Arctic Soul, owned by the Soul Syndicate, is now 17, having come out of racing as a 6yo in Ireland. I got the ride on him when he was an 8yo and we went from strength to strength as a partnership, going from Novice (British Eventing) to what is now 4 star in a year! Spike did his first 5 star at Badminton as an 11yo in 2014 and has been back every year since with 3 top 7 placings. He has also been in the top 5 at Burghley twice. He won the British Open championships in 2017, was 9th at the 2015 European championships and then part of the gold medal winning team at the 2018 World Equestrian Games at Tryon in USA.
Spike is renowned for his speed and boldness XC, has always been so clever and cat like. He is an extremely special, incredible horse and means the world to all of us at Teamtatt.
On the rare occasions Charles Church is able to exhibit, his critically acclaimed shows sell out well in advance.
It shouldn’t be a surprise, because as Henry Wyndham, former Chairman of Sotheby’s Europe, wrote in the 2013 foreword of Charles’ last London exhibition, Further Afield, “the pictures of this talented artist carry many of the hallmarks of some of the most renowned British painters of the early 20th century”.
The Prince of Wales described Charles as a remarkable artist, with a “unique sensitivity and profound understanding of his subject matter.” His skills were developed from an early age and honed in his early 20s during a two-year apprenticeship in Florence under the American artist, Charles H Cecil where he learnt to paint by sight-size using techniques dating back to the 17th century adopted by masters like Sir Joshua Reynolds and John Singer Sargent.
Charles Church’s pictures of horses, landscapes and country life are highly coveted and much sought after the globe over.
He has been commissioned to paint more than 60 Group/Grade 1 winning racehorses, including world champion and Arc de Triomphe winner Zarkava, Australian champion, Fastnet Rock and the Epsom and Irish Derby winner, Harzand.
Born in 1970 and brought up in Northumberland in the North-East of England, the Dorset-based artist’s patrons include HM the Sultan of Oman, HH the Aga Khan, Sheikh Fahad Al Thani, William Farrish, John Magnier, Lady Lloyd-Webber and Maria Niarchos-Gouaze.
